Public Space Policy & Planning
The Kingston Land Trust and Kingston Conservation Advisory Council have worked together on public space policy and planning in Kingston since both groups were founded in 2008. The KLT has supported the CAC in creating a Natural Resource Inventory (NRI) through cross-membership, funding consultants in mapping efforts, and reviewing drafts of the document.
The KLT has also supported the CAC’s process of working with consultant Behan Planning and Design to create an Open Space Plan for Kingston. We have helped the City raise awareness about the Open Space Plan process by focusing several outreach activities on this process in 2018, including our Weekend Wander and Trail Rangers walks and our Comida y tierra Spanish conversation series. At two Comida y tierra events, we discussed open spaces in Kingston with the Spanish-speaking community of Kingston and gathered ideas and comments that we submitted to the consultants writing the plan. We also submitted our own comments and recommendations for the plan based on our own priorities for open space that are fundamentally tied to social equity in access to open space and housing.
