Event is for

Step into the woods with us for a hands-on mushroom cultivation experience led by Luke and Kaya of the Eat More Mushrooms Project. Together, we'll explore the art and science of forest-based mushroom growing while deepening our relationship with the land.

This outdoor skillshare will cover key aspects of mushroom cultivation, including site design and log inoculation strategies. We’ll collaboratively plan the ideal forest site to host the mushroom logs we inoculated last spring—and prepare new ones for future growth. You'll also get to participate in "log soaking," a method used to stimulate mushroom production (also called “shocking”).

Mushrooms are a reminder that abundance is all around us. In a world where food security feels increasingly urgent, learning to grow nutrient-dense and delicious foods like mushrooms empowers us to reclaim our sustenance. Forests throughout the Northeast have long suffered from mismanagement, but through intentional observation and care, we can restore their health—and in return, they offer rich environments for growing edible fungi.

Come with your curiosity, your questions, and a willingness to get your hands on some logs!

*Followed by potluck lunch

Our Perma-blitz combines learning workshops with volunteering. Participants will learn skills from experts in the field and have an opportunity to practice them as a group through current stewardship projects happening on KLT-protected lands.
