Join the Kingston Land Trust for a free outdoor (physically-distanced) ecological design (permaculture) workshop and visioning session for forested land along the Kingston Greenline. Lunch will be provided.

Please RSVP by emailing greg@kingstonlandtrust.org and indicating your preferred sandwich from Delaware Deli just up the Greenline (ham, turkey, roast beef, or vegetable; cheddar, American, provolone, or no cheese; lettuce, tomato, onion?). Sun-brewed herbal tea from herbs grown by the facilitators!

Permaculture educators Lala Montoya (the Edge Project and Poughkeepsie Farm Project) and Jared Williams (The Edge Project and Future Fruits) will lead an interactive workshop on how we can apply permaculture principles to design an abused but resilient piece of land in Kingston for the benefit of the community and the environment. Participants will learn about topics including social permaculture, food forests, and ecological land management (defined below), and have the opportunity to engage in the process of designing and implementing green space that is relevant and exciting for their community.

Park in the JFK Elementary school parking lot at 71 Gross St, or come by foot, bike, or other wheels via the Kingston Greenline. The land is between Gross St and Murray St, next to the Kingston Greenline just downhill from where it crosses Delaware Ave and just uphill from Rondout Gardens apartments.

Social permaculture: just as a forest is made up of mutually beneficial relationships, a community like Kingston can also benefit from thoughtful design based on the relationship between natural spaces, built spaces, and the community who lives here. How can the land support us while we support the land?
Food forests: diverse planting of edible plants that attempts to mimic the ecosystems and patterns found in nature.
Ecological land management: maintaining and enhancing the natural values of land to conserve biological diversity and beauty.
