BioBlitz with KLT, Hudson Valley Bee Habitat, The Bee Conservancy & Scenic Hudson

To celebrate National Pollinator Week, join us for a group scavenger hunt — known as a Bioblitz — to identify pollinators, plants, birds, and other forms of life. We’ll begin by exploring pollinators and their host plants in the Sojourner Truth State Park, a 500+ acre post-industrial State Park with a rich cultural and ecological history and continue in Kingston Land Trust’s Forest Sanctuary, a small forested area with special pollinator habitats adjacent to the Kingston Greenline.

Your observations will contribute to the growing database of biodiversity (the variety of plants and animals) being gathered as part of the Defining Urban Biodiversity study and Bee The Solution projects in Hudson Valley cities. You’ll also learn how to use the iNaturalist and Bee Machine apps that you can continue using as you explore local parks and natural areas. This event is a collaboration between The Kingston Land Trust, Hudson Valley Bee Habitat, The Bee Conservancy, The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, and Scenic Hudson.

What to Expect
DRESS for an outdoor day: wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Long pants tucked into socks are recommended to protect yourself from ticks.

BRING binoculars and a smartphone/tablet if you have them.

TRAVEL between sites will be required for participation in the full event. You are welcome to join for just one site or both. Carpooling is encouraged.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Begin in Sojourner Truth State Park, East Kingston Trail Head and continue to KLT Forest/Pollinator Sanctuary at 81 Gross St.
