Bio

Katy Mejia is a jack of trades within the media landscape. By way of Austin to Brooklyn to the Bronx and finally to Kingston, her activism and love of the environment has always been the driving force.   From 2003 to 2016 she worked in the marketing and entertainment industry as an Art Director, video editor and a professional DJ and songwriter.  After becoming a mother, she switched gears and from 2017-2021, she taught songwriting and media arts to immigrant high school students in the Bronx. In 2020 she and her husband formed Mi Oh My Farms, a farming and educational cooperative focused on Food Justice in the Bronx. In 2022 she moved to the Hudson Valley with her husband and two young daughters where she worked for the Woodstock Film Festival for over two years.   Her film BIRTH FROM THE EARTH (2023) funded by Hudsy’s Community Content Fund features her home birth midwife Nubia Martin and addresses black maternal health issues. She has managed and created content for social media accounts and comms teams with large audiences, using her 25+ years of video editing, writing, art direction and graphic design experience. Her passion for the environment, education, her local experience coupled with her years of experience makes her a great fit for KLT!
