Bio

Katy Mejia is a multidisciplinary creative and community organizer whose work bridges media, education, and environmental activism. From Austin to Brooklyn, the Bronx, and now Kingston, her passion for social justice and the natural world has been the driving force throughout her career.

From 2003 to 2016, Katy worked in the marketing and entertainment industries as an art director, video editor, professional DJ, and songwriter. During this time, she produced hundreds of events and managed social media and communications for large audiences. After becoming a mother, she shifted her focus to education—teaching songwriting and media arts to immigrant high school students in the Bronx from 2017 to 2021.

In 2020, Katy and her husband founded Mi Oh My Farms, a farming and educational cooperative dedicated to food justice in the Bronx. In 2022, they relocated to the Hudson Valley with their two young daughters, where Katy joined the Woodstock Film Festival, contributing her creative expertise for over two years.

Her award-winning short film, Birth from the Earth (2023)—funded by Hudsy’s Community Content Fund—features her home-birth midwife, Nubia Martin, and highlights issues surrounding Black maternal health.

With over 25 years of experience in video production, photography, writing, and graphic design—and a deep passion for the environment, education, and her community—Katy brings creativity, commitment, and heart to every project she takes on.
