Collards at the Center: An Invitation (Online)
For generations, collards have been on our family tables—at gatherings, holidays, and Sunday dinners—connecting us to those who came before us and nourishing those who come after. At the Kingston Land Trust, we believe in honoring these connections while growing a future rooted in resilience, abundance, and community.
That’s why we’re thrilled to share the Ultra Cross Collard Project, a collaboration with the Hudson Valley Farm Hub to grow, cross, and save diverse collard varieties for our region and for generations to come.
This work expands the flavors, colors, cold-hardiness, and stories in our collard patches while honoring the deep heritage of this beloved plant in Black and Southern foodways.
Earlier this season, we gathered with growers and friends to admire the stunning colors, shapes, and stories unfolding in our collard beds. We’d love for you to see what we’re seeing—and to join us in growing, tasting, and saving seeds together.
Join us for a 1-hour online gathering:
Saturday, July 19
11:45 AM – 12:45 PM
Zoom (link provided upon RSVP)
We’ll share:
- Beautiful collard photos from this season’s gathering
- What the Ultra Cross Collard Project is and why it matters
-Ways you can join as a grower, seed saver, or taste tester
- A space for collard lovers to connect, share memories, and envision the future of collards in our region
If you’ve ever felt a warm memory stirring from the smell of collards simmering in the kitchen, or if you’ve dreamed of a world where we steward seeds as a community, this is for you.
RSVP to receive the Zoom link, and feel free to share with others who carry a love for collards and community in their hearts.
