Comida y tierra: Lo que cargamos (What we carry)

¡Nos vamos afuera! Estamos llevando esta conversación de CyT al aire libre. Trae a los niños, trae tu curiosidad y acompáñanos bajo las carpas para disfrutar de comida, música y conversaciones que sanan. Brindamos por el sol, la sombra y por verte allí.

Las semillas y las plantas se desplazan con la ayuda de propagadores naturales, como el viento, el agua, los animales y las personas, que les permiten moverse de un lugar a otro. Pero ¿quién decide qué plantas viajan y a dónde pertenecen?

Acompáñanos en este diálogo comunitario para explorar las distintas formas en que la vegetación se dispersa y echa raíces. Juntas y juntos, reflexionaremos sobre la relación entre las plantas, la cultura, la tierra y la alimentación, y conversaremos sobre cómo el movimiento de las plantas ha dado forma a las comunidades a lo largo de las generaciones. ¿Podemos seguir viajando con las plantas que son importantes para nosotros mientras comprendemos tanto los riesgos ecológicos como la belleza de estas conexiones?

Este evento contará con dos facilitadoras con experiencia en ciencia y trabajo comunitario. Disfruta de música, comida y un diálogo cultural significativo mientras aprendemos unos de otres y celebramos las conexiones entre las personas, las plantas y los lugares.

Nota para la comunidad: Este encuentro busca centrar intencionalmente idiomas más allá del inglés, incluyendo lenguas y voces indígenas. Les invitamos a escuchar con curiosidad en lugar de corregir, y a dar espacio a formas de conocimiento que pueden ser distintas a las suyas.

Seeds and plants travel with the help of natural propagators, such as wind, water, animals, and people—that allow them to move from one place to another. But who decides which plants travel, and where they belong?

Join us for a community dialogue exploring pathways through which vegetation spreads and takes root. Together, we'll examine the relationships between plants, culture, land, and food, and discuss how the movement of plants has shaped communities across generations. Can we continue to travel with the plants that are meaningful to us while also understanding the ecological risks and the beauty of these connections?

This event features two facilitators with backgrounds in science and community engagement. Enjoy music, food, and meaningful cultural dialogue as we learn from one another and celebrate the connections between people, plants, and places.

This gathering intentionally centers languages beyond English, including Indigenous languages and voices. We invite you to listen with curiosity rather than correction, and to make space for ways of knowing that may be different from your own.

All levels of Spanish are welcome, and we warmly encourage you to register. We are committed to building programming that centers Spanish and Q'eqchi'—honoring the languages that live within our beloved communities. In the spirit of reciprocity and equity, tickets are free for non-English speakers. For non-Spanish speakers, there is a suggested donation of $30 to cover the meal and programming.
